Officers from Blackpool have been working with local shops to improve security measures to prevent shoplifters.
Using recent data, officers identified hotspots within the resort that had seen a spike in shoplifting offences.
Since February 2023, during a number of plain-clothed operations, officers have detected 37 crimes. Within that they have:
- arrested two people
- interviewed eight people, all resulting in positive disposals
- stop searched 20 people
- issued two penalty notices for disorder
- provided seven community resolutions.
Officers will be carrying out additional uniformed and plain-clothed patrols in Blackpool to prevent shoplifting in the run-up to the festive season. Additional security measures have also been placed in some stores, to help prevent shoplifting offences.
Sergeant Paul Regan, from Blackpool Police, said: “The operations that we’ve conducted over the past year have supported some of the highest-affected stores in the Blackpool South area.
“We will continue to stamp-out shoplifting and hold offenders to account.
“The message is clear. You never know when you will be in the presence of a plain-clothed police officer.”
