On Wednesday 30th April, Fleetwood Police were nationally recognised at this year’s Serious Organised Crime (SOC) Conference, winning the Outstanding Public Service to Local Communities Award.
The National Police Chiefs Council (NPCC), in collaboration with the University of Huddersfield and the Home Office, delivered the national conference. Delegates from police and partnerships were in attendance with the theme of the conference being ‘collaboration’.
During the conference, the outstanding contribution that police and partners have delivered in the SOC Local space was recognised. The awards recognises the dedication, commitment and professionalism shown by individuals, teams and organisations.
Fleetwood Police won their award for the operational activity and partnership working undertaken as a part of The Prosper Partnership.
The Prosper partnership – consisting of representatives from the public and private sector as well as local schools and community groups – was launched as part of the Government’s Clear Hold Build strategy; a three-staged approach to combatting crime.
Operation Warrior drugs warrants, and regular neighbourhood patrols have been used to clear and hold the Park and Mount wards of Fleetwood and now the Prosper Partnership aims to build on this by working to strengthen and rejuvenate the local community and in doing so, deter offenders from returning.
Fleetwood is one of a number of areas nationally taking part in Clear Hold Build.
The partnership has seen fantastic success. Fleetwood Police have seized over £4 million worth of drugs and taken £325,530 in cash from drug dealers. They have also secured a total sentencing of over 60 years across Organised Crime Groups members (OCG).
Speaking at the event, Chief Inspector Martin Wyatt, said:
“I am so pleased that the hard work and dedication displayed by officers and partners is being recognised nationally.
“By bringing together local police, housing associations, councils, schools and other organisations we have been able to create a solid partnership which is proving to be extremely successful in tackling and preventing crime and building community resilience.
“Fleetwood is a beautiful part of the world with fantastic communities. We will continue to disrupt organised crime groups who think it is okay to distribute illegal substances in the area and work closely with partners to build strong neighbourhoods, and ensure Fleetwood continues to thrive.”
Clive Grunshaw, Police and Crime Commissioner for Lancashire said:
"I'm delighted to see the hard work being done in Fleetwood through Operation Prosper recognised at these national awards. The local policing team's efforts to dismantle criminal gangs and rejuvenate the community are truly commendable.
"Through Operation Warrior, we are tackling organised crime at full force, taking drugs off our streets, safeguarding vulnerable people and ensuring that crime gang suspects are arrested and brought to justice.
"Our 'clear, hold, build' strategy, which involves tackling crime, protecting the area, and ultimately allowing partners to strengthen community bonds, is being rolled out to other areas in Lancashire. This approach is a key part of our commitment to combating serious violent crime and delivering on my Police and Crime Plan."
