A shoplifter has been jailed for breaching a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) preventing him from entering stores in Skelmersdale.
On 29th April, Michael Corkhill was charged with four counts of theft after meat and cleaning products were stolen from multiple shops.
A day later, on 30th April, he appeared at Preston Magistrates Court where he pleaded guilty to the offences and was given a four-month suspended sentence. He was also issued with a CBO preventing him from entering Tawd Valley Retail Park, Asda and B&M Bargains in Skelmersdale.
On Tuesday, (13th May 2025), he was arrested again and charged with a further offence of theft from a shop and three breaches of the CBO.
Yesterday, Corkhill, 50, of Caister Close, Skelmersdale appeared at Preston Magistrates Court where he was jailed for nine months.
Sgt Luke Newman from West Lancashire’s Neighbourhood Policing Team said: ““The action taken here shows just how seriously we are taking retail crime. It is not a victimless crime and has a huge impact on businesses and the local community.
We will continue to closely monitor those who have been issued Criminal Behaviour Orders and act quickly if they continue offending in our shops. This behaviour is not welcome in West Lancashire and we will do everything we can to ensure it feels safe and secure for all those to live, work and visit here.”
Operation Vulture is Lancashire Constabulary’s response to shoplifting across the county, backed by Lancashire's Police and Crime Commissioner Clive Grunshaw.
The operation sees dedicated officers undertaking hotspot patrolling, increasing their visibility in targeted areas and creating strong partnerships with retailers across the county to better share intelligence, get a deeper understanding of retail crime and identify more offenders.
