Police issue guidance ahead of Radio 2 In The Park

Wednesday, September 4, 2024

Police officers will be providing a high-visibility presence for the up-coming Radio 2 In The Park Festival which will be taking place in Preston's Moor Park this week.

Running over three days, Friday 6th, Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th September, officers will be joined by specialist teams to ensure safety for all visitors coming to Preston for the event which will see performances from Sting, The Pet Shop Boys, Craig David and Sugababes.

Chief Inspector Julie Rawsthorne said: “We are really looking forward to this exciting event coming to Preston and we are well-prepared for the large crowds expected over the three days.

We have been working closely with the event organisers, BBC Radio 2, the local authority and other key partners to ensure that those who are attending can do so safely and we will have officers in and around the event, from many different teams across the Constabulary to ensure that it is enjoyable for everyone.”

Flight restrictions affecting drones will be imposed above Preston to support the policing operation for the event between 12:00 – 23:59 hours local time on each of the three days beginning on 6th September 2024 and ending on 8th September 2024.

Chief Inspector Julie Rawsthrone said: “The airspace restrictions will have an impact on Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS), which refers to drones and their users – this does not affect crewed flights.

“Remember, you commit an offence if you fly within the restricted areas without permission, and your equipment may be seized and confiscated. Full details of the restrictions are available on the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Skywise website.”
