Man charged with Preston burglary

Thursday, April 24, 2025

We have charged a man following a burglary and attempted burglary in Preston.

We were called at around 8.30am on Tuesday 8th April 2025 following reports of a burglary on Christ Church Street. It was reported a suspect entered the property through an insecure door while the occupants of the house were upstairs. Two bags, a laptop and a phone were stolen.

We later received a call from a second property on the street. This time it was reported that a window at the back of the house had been smashed. The suspect was disturbed and nothing was taken.

Yesterday, following multiple enquiries by the South Residential Burglary team, a 47-year-old man was arrested and we can now tell you that Gary Mooney, 47, of no fixed address, has been charged with burglary in a dwelling and attempted burglary in a dwelling with intent to steal.

He has been remanded into custody and will appear at Preston Magistrates Court this morning.

Operation Defender is a force-wide campaign that aims to combat residential burglary with support from Lancashire's Police and Crime Commissioner Clive Grunshaw.
