Knife amnesty bin installed in Ormskirk to take weapons off our streets

Friday, May 23, 2025

Another knife bin has been installed in West Lancashire as part of our ongoing work to prevent knife crime.

This week is another Operation Sceptre, a national week-long initiative to tackle the issue.

Officers from West Lancashire are carrying out a range of both operational and proactive engagement work throughout the week including weapon sweeps, test purchasing visits and school inputs.

The new knife bin, which has been funded by the Lancashire Violence Reduction Network and  has been installed outside Ormskirk Police Station, takes the number of amnesty bins across the county to 26  with bins also at Skelmersdale Police Station and all areas listed here 👉 Knife Bin Locations - Lancashire Violence Reduction Network

Knives or bladed articles are able to be dropped through the bin’s hatch and officers empty the bins regularly and dispose of the items safely.

Sergeant Rachel Killinger from Lancashire’s Violence Reduction Network said: “It’s great that we have been able to secure an additional knife amnesty bin for West Lancashire so that knives can be safely disposed of.

This new bin has not been installed here because of a particular issue in the area. Ormskirk is a safe place. However, knife crime remains an issue across the country and any additional steps that we can take to prevent knives getting into the wrong hands is a positive.”
