On the 20th November 2024, Hyndburn Police, in collaboration with the DVLA and Hyndburn Council, conducted a successful operation targeting illegal and untaxed vehicles in the Bridge Street area.
The operation, known as “Bin the Bangers”, aimed to address the growing issue of abandoned and untaxed vehicles that were causing significant inconvenience to local businesses and residents. The narrow street, with cars parked on both sides, hindered the movement of larger vehicles and limited parking options in the area.
During the operation, Hyndburn Police and the DVLA seized a total of 21 vehicles, four vehicles were seized for obstruction under Section 99, one car for unnecessary obstruction of a highway, and 16 were seized for having no tax or MOT.
The recovered vehicles were safely stored, and the offending garages will be receiving a Community Protection Warning (CPW) in due course. Hyndburn Council will also subsequently conduct a street cleanse to restore the area.
Local Neighbourhood Inspector for Hyndburn, Peter Norris said: “We know that these vehicles can be hazardous for our residents and cause problems for businesses, as well as being a real eyesore for those living and working in the area.
“We are glad we have been able to work closely with our partners to remove these vehicles off our streets and will continue to address the concerns of our communities.”
