Hyndburn Police, in collaboration with the DVSA, conducted a successful operation last week targeting illegal and untaxed vehicles in the Bridge Street area.
The operation, known as “Bin the Bangers”, aimed to address the issue of abandoned and untaxed vehicles that were causing significant inconvenience to local businesses and residents. The narrow street, with cars parked on both sides, hindered the movement of larger vehicles and limited parking options in the area.
During the operation, Hyndburn Police and the DVSA seized a total of 20 vehicles which were untaxed, not declared as off-road (SORN), and in various states of disrepair.
In addition to removing the vehicles, a road sweeper was deployed to clean Bridge Street, significantly improving both its safety and appearance.
The offending garages received formal words of advice about the impact of the abandoned vehicles and their legal responsibilities.
Local Neighbourhood Inspector for Hyndburn, Mo Lorgat said: “We know that these vehicles can be hazardous for pedestrians and cause problems for businesses, as well as being a real eyesore for those visiting and working in the area.
“We are glad we have been able to work closely with our partners to remove these vehicles off our streets and will continue to address the concerns of our communities.”
