Officers and staff from across East division enjoyed a night of celebration at this year’s Lancashire Constabulary Excellence Awards.
The ceremony, which was held at Ewood Park on Thursday 19th September, shone the spotlight on the hard work and dedication of our officers and staff and highlighted the work taking place across the county to make our communities safer.
Of the twelve awards presented on the night, officers and staff from East Division, which covers the areas of Blackburn with Darwen, Hyndburn, Burnley, Pendle, the Ribble Valley and Rossendale, won one award and came runner up in two categories.
Chief Superintendent Steve Rides, East Divisional Commander said: “My officers and staff in East Division consistently go above and beyond in their roles, day in day out.
It’s great to see them be acknowledged at these awards, as well as all the other individuals across the force who help keep communities across Lancashire safe. I would like to congratulate all that were nominated as well as the winners on the night, they are all a credit to the force.”
Victim First Gavin Fielden (winner)
PC Gavin Fielden was presented with this award for his exceptional dedication as a family liaison officer, especially following a fatal road traffic collision in July 2023 that claimed the life of a 15-year-old girl. Gavin compassionately engaged with the victim’s family, gaining their trust through his honesty, consistency and personalised approach. His unwavering support, even during his own personal grief, helped the family through their darkest times and resulted in their collaboration with the police for a road safety campaign. His outstanding commitment to victims and families, often going above and beyond his duties, exemplifies why Gavin was recognised with this award.
Extraordinary Police Service Hannah Brown (runner-up)
DC Hannah Brown was nominated for this award for her commitment to an investigation, her support for the family and the positive outcome, what she achieved on her own. Being described as an exceptional and tenacious investigator, Hannah, who worked as part of Burnley CID, progressed a sensitive and serious case, involving sexual offences against children. The offender received a custodial sentence of 17 years. Hannah’s contribution to this case, her role, victims of crime and the constabulary has been exemplary.
Lifetime Achievement Graham Hartley (runner-up)
PC Graham Hartley, the Community Beat Manager for Accrington Town Centre has been recognised with the silver award for his outstanding service and dedication. With years of experience in frontline policing, Graham is a familiar and respected figure across the county. At 60 years old he is one of the oldest servicing Public Order officers and continues to active in handling significant workload and achieving great results. Back in 2023, Graham demonstrated his skill and commitment by performing life-saving CPR during a protest in London., earning a note of recognition from a Met Police Commander. Approaching retirement, he remains an informal mentor, a positive influence, and a go-to member of the team, well-regarded by colleagues, partners and the community.
