Appeal following fatal collision in Blackburn

Wednesday, May 7, 2025

We are appealing for witnesses and footage following a fatal collision in Blackburn earlier this year.

Our officers were called to Whalley New Road at the junction with Plane Street at 2.34pm on Saturday, 29th March, following reports of a collision involving an Audi A3 and a Nissan Note.

The passenger of the Nissan, a man in his 90s, subsequently attended hospital with what were initially thought to be minor injuries. However, his condition deteriorated, and the man sadly died on 25th April. Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this extremely distressing time.

The drivers of the Audi and the Nissan were not seriously injured.

Following enquiries, a 33-year-old man from Blackburn was arrested yesterday morning (6th May) on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has been released on bail whilst we carry out further enquiries.

We are now asking for people to review any CCTV or dashcam footage to see if they have captured anything that could assist our investigation.

Detective Sergeant Matt Davidson, from our Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Tragically a man has died, and my thoughts are first and foremost with his loved ones at this difficult time."

“Work is ongoing to establish the full circumstances which led to his death, and I would ask any witnesses we haven’t spoken to or anyone with footage to make contact with us as soon as possible.”
