At around 4:00am we were called by our colleagues at the North West Ambulance Service to a report that a male had been assaulted.
The injured person – a man in his 20’s – was found to have suffered multiple stab wounds and was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition. Thankfully, his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
After further investigation, we believe these injuries to have been sustained in an earlier altercation between the victim and several men at around 3:25am on Saturday 12th April, in Accrington town centre.
Three people – aged 18, 20 and 23 - have been arrested and remain in custody at this time.
We are now asking anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the incident, or in the hours before or after, that saw anything that might assist our enquiries to come forward. We’re particularly interested in dashcam and CCTV footage from anyone who we have not already spoken to, in the Eagle Street, Ormerod Street and Scaitcliffe Street areas. We’d also like to speak to any taxi drivers who we know from our enquiries may have been going about their business at this time.
The public may see increased patrols in the area whilst we conduct further investigation – our officers are there to keep you safe and can be approached to discuss any concerns.
We’d ask anyone with any information to approach our officers, who will be happy to assist, or alternatively the public can call 101 quoting log 0240 of 12th April to pass information to us.
