Prize Draw Fraud

Prize draw winner?

Don’t reply until you’re sure

Most prize draws and competitions are genuine. However, some are run by criminals looking for your money or personal details.

They may continue to contact you with excuses for more money, pretending you are getting closer to receiving your prize… but it never arrives.

Notify your bank if you gave out your bank or card details.Report fraud to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040.

Protect yourself: have you…

  • Won a competition you didn’t enter?
  • Felt pressured to act quickly or been  given a deadline to claim a prize?
  • Been requested to send a fee, or order  from a catalogue, to claim your prize?
  • Asked family or friends for advice?
  • Thought it sounds too good to be true?

Protect others: have they…

  • Started receiving more post or phone calls than before?
  • Used more cheque books than usual?
  • Become more secretive about money?
  • Met up with family or friends less often?
  • Also received letters from clairvoyants or psychics predicting a big win?
