AN investigation into a fire which destroyed a former Preston nightclub is continuing.
And we have this morning (Friday, May 20th) arrested a 14-year-old boy in connection with that investigation.
On Thursday evening a fire broke out in the former Odeon cinema and vacant Evoque nightclub on Church Street in Preston. The building was partly derelict and partly utilised by businesses.
Road closures are in place and the area is also closed to pedestrians, so we advise the public to avoid the area. This will continue over the weekend as emergency demolition work is required at the site with completion expected by Monday 23 May.
For further information on this go to www.preston.gov.uk or follow @prestoncouncil.
A joint inquiry into the cause of the fire will be carried out by investigators from Lancashire Police and Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service. At this stage we are not in a position to give a cause or to say whether the fire was started deliberately.
Det Insp George Binns, of Preston CID, said: “While we have made one arrest our investigation is very much ongoing and I would appeal to anyone who has seen anything suspicious in the area yesterday, or in the recent days and weeks, or anyone who has any information which could assist our enquiries to get in touch.”
Anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting log 1347 of May 19th. Alternatively contact independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
