Witness appeal following serious collision in Burnley

We are appealing for witnesses after a serious collision in Burnley today (Tuesday, January 19).

Around 3.30am a suspect vehicle was seen by police in Burnley.

Following a short pursuit, the vehicle, a Honda Accord car, was involved in a collision with street furniture and other stationary vehicles on Colne Road at the junction with Casterton Avenue.

The driver, a 26-year-old man, was taken to Royal Preston Hospital with suspected head and spinal injuries. He is currently in a serious condition.

The road was closed by police while accident investigators attended the scene.

The incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) as a matter of course.

Police are appealing for information following the collision.

Temp Sgt Craig Booth, of Lancashire Police’s Tactical Operations, said: “We are appealing for witnesses after a serious road traffic collision in Burnley.

“We would urge anyone who saw what happened, or saw the Honda in the moments before the collision, to come forward.

“Furthermore if you have any CCTV or dashboard mounted camera footage which shows the incident, please get in touch with us.”
