Sunday, April 18, 2021

We are appealing for witnesses after an elderly man was injured in a collision in Preston last night (Saturday, April 17th).

It happened around 9:50pm when a VW Golf collided with a pedestrian believed to be in his seventies, as he was crossing Deepdale Road.

He suffered head, chest, arm and leg injuries and was taken to Royal Preston Hospital, where he remains in a serious condition.

The car made off from the scene but a man and boy purporting to have been in the vehicle attended Preston Police Station a short time later.

As a result, a 20-year-old man from Preston has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop, along with a 16-year-old boy who has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. They both remain in custody at this time.

Sgt Phil Baxendale from Preston Police said: “Firstly my thoughts are with the family of the injured pedestrian who remains very poorly in hospital.

“We need anyone who was driving in the Deepdale Road area and saw what happened to speak to us as you may have important information that could assist our investigation. Similarly, if you may have any dash cam footage, please get in touch.”
