Large cannabis set up found in Blackpool

Wednesday, September 9, 2020

A large cannabis factory, estimated to be worth millions of pounds, has been found during a raid in Blackpool.

It happened yesterday morning (Tuesday, September 8th) when a warrant was executed at an industrial unit on the Squires Gate Industrial Estate.

Inside, officers found over 30 tents containing over 1500 cannabis plants. Their initial value is estimated to be worth around £3m to £4m.

A man, 33, and a woman, 28, from Warrington, along with a 44-year-old man from Newton-le-Willows were arrested on suspicion of production of cannabis. They have since been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

DI Steve Harry from Blackpool Police said: “We know that this type of criminality goes beyond simply growing the cannabis as it often fuels organised crime and violence.

“It is thanks to the local community providing us with information and our officers fathering intelligence that we were able to take action.

“We need the public to help us help them by continuing to give us information about drug production and dealing in their area. You can do this online at doitonline.lancashire.police.uk or can call 101.”

Alternatively, you can report it via independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or online at crimestoppers-uk.org.
