Pedestrian seriously injured in Nelson

Saturday, August 1, 2020

We are appealing for witnesses after a pensioner was seriously injured following a collision in Nelson.

Police were called around 12.15pm yesterday (Friday, July 31) to reports of an accident on Broadway.

An Audi Q5 had been involved in a collision with an 81-year-old woman on the pelican crossing.

The pedestrian, from Nelson, suffered a number of serious injuries including multiple fractures to her hip, leg, back, shoulder and chest. She was taken to Royal Preston Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the Audi, a woman in her 50s, was not injured.

The road was closed for close to three hours while accident investigators attended the scene.

We are appealing for witnesses, in particular a motorist driving a grey Volvo XC90 on Broadway at the time of the incident.

Sgt Mick Belfield, of Lancashire Police’s Tactical Operations Unit, said: “We would urge anyone who saw the collision to come forward and speak to us.

"We are particularly keen to speak to the driver of a grey Volvo XC90 which was on Broadway. We believe the driver may have seen the pedestrian before the collision.

“We would encourage anyone with information to come forward and contact police.”

If you saw what happened please call 101 or email [email protected] log 0525 of July 31.
