Murder investigation in Blackpool: tribute from Marlene's family

The family of Marlene McCabe have paid tribute to her.

Police were called around 6pm on Wednesday (September 4) to an address on West Park Drive.

Emergency services attended with the body of a woman found inside the property. The woman, who had suffered serious head and facial injuries, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

We have now officially identified the body as that of Marlene McCabe, 71, from Blackpool.

A Home Office post mortem examination has been carried out and a cause of death of head injuries has been given.

Paying tribute to Marlene, her family have said:

“The family are devastated at the tragic circumstances surrounding their loved ones death. Marlene was a kind, caring mother and devoted Granny who will be greatly missed by the many people whose lives she touched. The family ask for privacy at this sad time.”

A 25-year-old man from Blackpool was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder.

Yesterday afternoon (Thursday,5 September), magistrates granted detectives a further 36 hours to question him. He remains in police custody at this time.
