Public order incident in Blackburn

Police are investigating an incident of public order in Blackburn.

We were called at 16:33 hours today (21 March) to the report of an altercation between a group of people on New Chapel Street.

It was reported that some people were seen to be carrying weapons.

Emergency Services attended and one male was found with facial injuries. He has been taken to hospital for treatment.

An 18 year old man from Blackburn has been arrested on suspicion of affray and possession of a bladed article.

A 16 year old boy from Blackburn has been arrested on suspicion of affray. Both remain in police custody at this time.

Inspector Jon Cisco of Blackburn Police said: “We understand the concern that this will have caused to people in the local area. We believe this was a targeted incident and would like to reassure people that it has now come to a close.

“We are taking this very seriously and there will be a heavier police presence in the area while our enquiries continue.
