Witness appeal after Blackburn collision

We are appealing for witnesses after a pensioner suffered serious injuries following a collision in Blackburn.

Police were called around 5.30pm yesterday (Tuesday, July 9) to a collision involving a Hyundai I10 car and Seat Ibiza car at the junction of Ramsgreave Drive and Barker Lane.

An 83-year-old woman from Blackburn, a passenger in the Hyundai, suffered a suspected fractured neck, broken ribs, chest injuries and a suspected fractured pelvis. She was taken to Royal Preston Hospital for treatment and is in a serious condition.

The driver of the Hyundai, a 91-year-old man from Blackburn, suffered a cut to his knee, with the driver of the Seat, a 34-year-old man from Accrington, suffering suspected whiplash injuries.

The road was closed for closed for more than two hours while emergency services attended the scene.

Sgt Michael Belfield, of Lancashire Police, said: “We are keen to speak to any witnesses following a serious road traffic collision in Blackburn.

“We know a number of motorists will have been using the road during rush hour and would encourage anyone with information to come forward.”
