Our investigation is continuing today following reports a man was seen by a member of the public in possession of a firearm in Blackpool.
Armed officers made to the Warbreck Hill area following the report, which we received at around 5pm last night (Monday).
Lime Grove was temporarily closed and staff at nearby offices were advised to stay indoors as a precaution while officers searched the area. The operation was stood down at around 9pm. There was no trace of the male.
Today we continue to have visible patrols in the area as reassurance and our investigation is very much on-going. Officers are currently reviewing CCTV from the area, while the person who originally made the report to us is being re-interviewed.
We are also continuing to ask anybody who saw anything suspicious in the area, or who has information about this incident and has not yet been spoken to by officers, to contact us as soon as possible.
DCI Lee Wilson, of Blackpool CID, said: “This report was made in good faith and at this point we are still taking the information seriously.
“We continue to have extra patrols in the area, which we hope will reassure people who are going about their daily business in Warbreck Hill and the surrounding area, and our investigation is on-going and a dedicated team of officers are carrying out extensive enquiries to ascertain exactly what occurred.
“We would like to thank members of the public, in particular those staff who remained in their offices nearby as a precaution until we were satisfied it was safe for them to leave, for their understanding and patience.”
Anybody with information is asked to contact us on 101, quoting log number 1047 of February 4th.
