Blackpool man charged by detectives

Detectives have charged a man with murder following an investigation in Blackpool.

Police were called by the Ambulance Service around 2am on July 21 following a report a man had been assaulted on Lytham Road.

The man, named as Gary Williams, 31, from Blackpool, was taken by ambulance to Royal Preston Hospital but sadly died on July 23.

A post mortem examination found Mr Williams died as a result of significant head trauma.

William Beattie, 47, of Reads Avenue, Blackpool had initially been charged with the assault of Mr Williams on July 22 .

Following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, he was yesterday (Tuesday, August 20) charged with murder.

He has been remanded to appear at Preston Crown Court tomorrow (Thursday, August 22).
