Fire at Preston home

Monday, April 29, 2019

We are appealing for information following an arson at an address in Preston.

The incident occurred at around 2am on April 24th, when the doorway of a ground floor flat on Avenham Road was set alight.

The fire spread and caused extensive damage to the door, hallway, lounge and a bedroom.

The occupant of the flat was home at the time but managed to escape. Several other properties were also evacuated as the fire caused a significant gas leak.

We would now like to hear from anybody with information about the incident.

DC Fabian Spence, of Preston Police, said: “Thankfully nobody was hurt as a result of this incident, however that is purely down to luck. Because of the time it occurred someone could easily have been seriously injured or killed.

“We would now like to speak to anybody with information that could help with our investigation. Perhaps you know who is responsible, or maybe you were in the area saw something that seemed suspicious.

“Whatever you know we would ask you to contact us as soon as possible.”

Anybody with information is asked to ring 101, quoting log number 76 of April 24th.

Alternatively you can reach Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or online at crimestoppers-uk.org.
