Saturday, May 19, 2018

We are appealing for information following a serious collision on the M65 on Thursday, May 17th.

It happened at around 8pm just after junction 4 at Darwen when a Mercedes C220 and a flat-bed truck have collided, causing the car to hit the central reservation and ricochet back into the path of the truck.

The driver of the Mercedes, a 39 year old man and the front seat passenger, a boy aged 8, both from Aughton both suffered injuries.

The boy was taken to Manchester Children’s Hospital with a head and leg injury, where the man was also treated for minor injuries.

The driver of the truck - believed to have been stolen in Sheffield – made off from the area and is being sought by police.

Officers are asking anyone with information to come forward.

Sgt Finn Quainton from the Road Policing Unit said: “My thoughts are with the boy who I wish a full and speedy recovery in hospital.
“We are actively trying to track down the man that was seen running from the truck; not only do we need to speak to him, he may also have been injured and could require medical assistance.  If you you have any information about him or indeed the incident itself, please make contact with us.”

Please call 101 quoting incident reference LC-20170517-1422. Alternatively, independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555111 or online at crimestoppers-uk.org.
