Appeal after fatal collision in Bacup

Two people have died following a collision in Bacup in the early hours of this morning (Sunday, March 11th).

It happened at around 1:35am when a dark coloured Ford Focus car has been travelling towards Bacup on Todmorden Road and has crashed into a parked Vauxhall Astra car and overturned.

The driver, who has been named as Matthew Horridge, 30, from Rochdale and passenger, 22, also from Rochdale, were taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital where they sadly pronounced deceased a short time later. Their families have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

Sgt Finn Quainton from the Road Policing Unit said: “Firstly my thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends of these two men at this incredibly sad and difficult time.

“We need anyone who may have seen the Ford Focus car leading up to the collision to get in contact with us as they may have vital information that could assist with our investigation.”

Matthew Horridge's family have paid the following tribute to him: "Matthew was a loving, kind and happy person and he will be missed so, so much. He was a loving son, father and brother and we are truly devastated and heartbroken."
