Tuesday, November 21, 2017

We are appealing for information following an armed robbery in which a shopkeeper had a machete held to his neck.

At around 9.55pm on Sunday November 19, three men wearing balaclavas entered the Thoroughgoods store in Leyland Lane, on the corner of Studholme Avenue, Penwortham, and made threats to the staff.

One of the men jumped over the counter and held a weapon to the shop assistant’s neck and a second shop assistant was locked in the toilet having had her wallet and phone stolen.

The men then made off with a quantity of cash and cigarettes.

Det Con Stuart Lunt, of Chorley CID, said: “This was a nasty robbery which left two members of staff very shaken by their ordeal.
“If you were in the area at that time and saw anything suspicious, please get in touch.”
