Vigilance warning after attempted abduction in Skelmersdale

Sunday, July 9, 2017

POLICE are appealing for information and warning people to be vigilant after a report of an attempted abduction in Skelmersdale.

The warning follows an incident at about 6.20pm today (Sunday, July 9th) when a nine year old girl was playing on her bike on a field close to the Enstone estate when she was approached from behind by a man.

He grabbed the girl around the neck but she managed to break free and run home from where her parents contacted the police.

The girl was shaken up but thankfully unhurt.

The man is described as dressed all in black, tall and thin with his face covered.

PC John Iddon, of Skelmersdale Police, said: 'We are treating this incident very seriously and have launched an investigation. While incidents like this are relatively rare I would urge people to be extra vigilant and report anything suspicious to the police. There are extra uniform patrols in the area as reassurance.'

Anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting log number 1322 of Sunday, July 9th or independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
