DETECTIVES investigating a serious assault in Burnley are appealing for witnesses.
At around 6.10pm on Friday, December 1st the victim, 72, answered the door of his home on Rossetti Avenue in Burnley where he was seriously assaulted to the head.
He remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital.
Police are investigating and are appealing for witnesses.
And they are especially keen to speak to the occupants of a dark coloured saloon car or people carrier which was on Rossetti Avenue between 6-6.30pm as they are a possible witness to an offender making off from the scene.
Detective Inspector Neil Marr, of East CID, said: “This assault has left an elderly man with a very serious injury and I would appeal to anyone who saw anything suspicious yesterday evening, or in the lead up to this incident, to get in touch, in particular those who were in a dark coloured car who may have seen the offender making off.
“As an extra precaution I would advise people to be careful when opening the door, especially at night, to ensure you know who is there when you answer.”
Anyone with information should contact 101 quoting log number 1192 of December 1st.
