James Berry - Client Support Officer

Before taking part in the WorkStart Programme I had been out of University for one year and was claiming Job Seekers Allowance.

James BerryBefore I progressed onto WorkStart+ I was on my 8 week unpaid placement where I shadowed Information Technology Liaison Officers, visited a variety of departments and learnt the team protocols and specialist software.

Whilst on WorkStart I still received my benefits. I always had lots of support from my fellow colleagues who were happy to offer assistant and support, whenever I needed it.

Having now progressed onto WorkStart+ I have much more responsibility. I have started getting calls assigned to me and I am working independently on my own accounts.

The WorkStart Programme is useful because you are given the opportunity to gain work experience to enable you to decide where you would like to work in the future, and there is always the chance of it progressing into paid employment.

WorkStart provides opportunities that can kick start your career whether you progress onto WorkStart+ at the same company or put it on your CV to help you gain employment elsewhere, the experience is invaluable.
