Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship

This 3-year apprenticeship gives you the opportunity to learn on-the-job while studying for a BSc in Professional Policing Practice.

It's a great way to start your Lancashire Police career if you don't already hold a degree.

What's Involved?

This is a 3-year programme where you'll combine studying with serving as a front line police officer at Lancashire Constabulary. You'll learn on-the-job as well as studying for a BSc (Hons) Professional Policing Practice, a Level 6 qualification awarded by the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan). This is a rigorous programme that will give you a valuable blend of knowledge and experience.

You'll earn while you're learning and your university fees will be funded by Lancashire Constabulary.

Where Will I Study?

Your degree will be awarded by the UCLan.

You'll study across several locations:

  • Hutton Hall (Police Headquarters)
  • UCLan Burnley
  • UCLan Preston.

The course takes place in 3 blocks of learning throughout each year and involves classroom sessions, coursework and exams. When you're not in the classroom you'll be working on full operational duties putting theory in to practice.

What Are The Entry Requirements?

You’ll need Level 2 qualifications in English and Maths (GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above) plus at least 1 A-Level or equivalent.

If you're unsure what level your qualifications are you can check here.

What Support Will I receive?

You'll have lots of support. You'll receive one-to-one support in your studies from your UCLan tutor. At work, Lancashire Constabulary officers and staff will be there to help in your operational role. You and your manager will also hold professional development meetings where you can discuss your progress and gain support.

As you'll be starting with a group of others on the same programme you'll be able to support each other too by sharing experiences and setting up study groups.

What Is The Starting Salary?

Your starting salary is £23,586 and you'll receive annual increases.
