Independent Advisory Groups (IAG)

Over the last 21 years, IAG’s have been developed to assist the police service in understanding the role and impact it has within diverse communities. Acting as voluntary critical friends, IAG’s have provided an opportunity to seek valuable advice and insight on policy and policing practices and how they impact different communities.

Lancashire Constabulary operates 3 IAG groups situated in each of our divisional areas which meet regularly.

The purpose of the IAG is not one of scrutiny; rather it provides a safeguard against disadvantaging any section of our communities through a lack of understanding, ignorance or mistaken belief. A ‘critical friend’ is one who is of significant importance to the Constabulary, and it does not imply that they should necessarily be judgemental or censorious.
